Description

INSPIRED BY HENRY DASSON

A Tribute to One of France’s Great Ébénistes
This exceptional secretary is a contemporary interpretation inspired by the celebrated work of Henry Dasson (1825–1896), one of the most highly regarded French cabinetmakers of the nineteenth century.
Dasson became renowned for his extraordinary interpretations of eighteenth-century French furniture, combining elaborate cabinetmaking with richly chased gilt-bronze ornamentation and luxurious materials. His work drew inspiration from the great Louis XV and Louis XVI traditions and today remains highly sought after by collectors and represented in important collections worldwide.
This secretary captures that same decorative spirit through its commanding architectural form, elaborate ornamentation, refined proportions, and unmistakably French character.
For the collector or interior designer who admires the grandeur of museum-quality French decorative arts, this piece offers an opportunity to bring the Henry Dasson aesthetic into an interior without the extraordinary cost and rarity associated with an original period example.

DESIGN HISTORY — INSPIRED BY THE BUREAU DU ROI
This exceptional piece draws inspiration from the legendary Bureau du Roi, the royal desk created for King Louis XV of France and considered one of the great masterpieces of French cabinetmaking.
The original desk was begun in 1760 by master cabinetmaker Jean-François Oeben and, following his death, was completed in 1769 by Jean-Henri Riesener. Created for the King’s private cabinet at the Palace of Versailles, the original remains at Versailles today.

Celebrated for its magnificent proportions, intricate marquetry, sculptural gilt-bronze ornamentation, and sophisticated craftsmanship, the Bureau du Roi became an enduring symbol of French royal luxury.
The design was later interpreted by distinguished nineteenth-century makers, including Henry Dasson (1825–1896), renowned for producing exceptionally refined works inspired by the great furniture of eighteenth-century France.

Our piece continues this extraordinary decorative tradition, offering the grandeur and presence of this historic design for today’s interior.

Please note: This is a contemporary reproduction inspired by historic French designs. It is not an original Bureau du Roi, Henry Dasson work, or period antique.
